Gypaetus Barbatus

Poem by Esotericallyblogging

There is a Lammergeier in my brain

It soars between gyri peaks

Folds within my skull, scavenging sulci

Prefrontal cortex it's gray nest.

Me and egg in mother's womb

I nest in pink, he nests in gray

He did not yet hatch though,

Till after I was born

Towering gyrification peaks

Over miles of gray and white matter

He sits on the ridges watching

For carcasses, bones in each holler

There is a Lammergeier inside me

Spotting the weak connections

He picks through my neurons

For the bones, I have many

Lammergeier eternal

For bones are ever present

Each new cadaver leaving them there

He finds them, picks me clean

Bloodied vulture watching me weep

He knows not human comfort

So, he tidies my brain nicely

I am cleaned by his feast
